Stupidity by any name is still stupidity.

Which mostly leads me to the constant bombardment of political ads on TV these days. Commercials in and of themselves are bad enough, but to be forced to sit through one political ad after another ad nauseum is just wrong.
Watching them reminds me of a couple of fourth graders on the playground, taunting each other.
The "My daddy is bigger than your daddy" mentality of these politicians is just so tiresome. Given the choices we have, why on earth would any one even bother to vote? From the conservative right to the over the top liberal left, to a man, or woman, they are all courting votes with promises they have no intention of keeping, or in most cases, the wherewithal to keep. And the American public, through years and years of conditioning buy into the B.S. and vote whichever party their parents voted.
I think we can be likened to lemmings, following the leader off the cliff. No minds of our own. Ronnie Republican says, "I will lower taxes, balance the federal budget, improve schools, pull out of Iraq, fix the health care system that is seriously broke in this country, and put a chicken in every pot."
Donnie Democrat says, "I will lower taxes, balance the federal budget the current regime has destroyed, fix the schools, pull out of Iraq, fix the health care system that is seriously broke in this country, and give every American a pot for that chicken".
So, off to the polls we go, our parties nominees promises ringing in our ears and vote. And things change in Washington, at least the party in control does, and we are happy, we are satisfied until one year into the new administration, we come to realize that once again, we've been duped.
So, we bitch and we moan and we change party affiliations, and swear that next election things are going to change, but the only thing that ever changes is the portrait in the White House.
Why is that, do you suppose? Could it be that those two parties have finally outlived their usefulness? Could it be that we, as Americans have got to step up and say, "Enough already". Let's stop voting for the party and start voting for the person we believe will do what he/she promised to do.
And who is that, you might ask? Well, it sure as hell isn't a politician! Obviously our system is broken.
So here's an idea. Try really, really listening to the candidates. Read about them, about their stand on all of the issues, not just the ones that they play up in their ads. And about those ads. Do away with the damn things. They are nothing more than smear campaigns .
Me, I could give a crap less if Ronnie Republican smoked pot thirty years ago, ro Donnie Democrat had an extramarital affair ten years ago. Who's business is that exactly? Ours? Says who? We don't want our precious privacy violated, so what gives us the right to invade theirs?
I get so sick of the whining and bellyaching about this stupid invasion of privacy issue. If you're not breaking the law, if you're not hiding you're affiliation with Al Qaeda, if you're not selling drugs, if you're not conspiring to assassinate the president, or setting up a rendezvous with a child for illicit purposes, or downloading child pornography, then what are you worried about?
Come on gang, you can't be THAT concerned about your privacy or you wouldn't be here right now, would you?
Let's get our heads out of our collective asses and stop bitching and moaning and find the right person for this oh so important job. I know he/she is out there.
This person works for a living, works hard. Doesn't have a Harvard Law Degree, but did graduate high school. He/she wasn't born with a silver spoon his/her mouth, but a stainless steel one, just like you or me. This person knows how damn hard it is to pay for medicine, because he/she can't afford the exorbitant health insurance premiums. This person knows how to conserve energy, because he/she has to pay that light bill, that heating bill, fill up the gas tank. This person knows the schools are in trouble because little Johnny has to share a book with another student, because little Susie can't read, write or cipher , although she's just in kindergarten, and God knows we don't pay our teachers enough to actually teach. This person knows the fear, sorrow and anger the family of a soldier in Iraq feels because he/she has a child, brother, sister, mother or father over there fighting to protect people and democracy, and has to defend that loved one from the dumb asses over here that are protesting the war. This person knows that we have to back off deforestation because not only is it destroying our atmosphere, but it is causing the extinction of hundreds of animal species that once their gone, will never be seen again outside of the pages of books. This person supports stem cell research, fully realizing that thousands of fetuses are aborted daily and the stem cells from them can save the lives of thousands of people whose mother's chose to have them. This person knows that it is not necessary to kill babies in order to get those stem cells. This person has mixed feelings about abortion and is honest enough to admit it. He/she is neither pro-choice or pro-life, but thinks the decision should rest solely with the mother, but also thinks that a young girl should not be given an abortion without her parents being notified, and that partial birth abortions when the mother's life is not in danger should NEVER be performed. This person knows that the American family is in trouble, and understands that parents need to be given back the right to control their children, but not the right to abuse them. This person knows that child predators should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but he/she also knows that at some point a 'child needs to take responsibility for their own actions. This person believes that the punishment should fit the crime and that those on death row shouldn't languish there on the taxpayers dime for ten, twenty or thirty years.
This person believes that the person on death row should be given three appeals, not thirty-three. And this person believes that illegal immigrants, regardless of their reasons for being illegal should be deported and made to go through proper channels for admissions to this country, just like every other immigrant did.
And folks until we find such a person, a person just like you and me, we are doomed to keep making the same lousy choices and to keep whining about the choices we made!
Have a great day, Y'all!
